A TRAVZ STARTING POINT
Ubud and the Bukit, slowly
A considered 8-day shape for Bali, ready to be adapted around your dates, pace and people.
THE IDEA
A route with room
for your story.
Most Bali itineraries try to cover the whole island in a week and end up being a record of time spent in cars. This one does the opposite. Two bases, one inland and one on the coast, with a single transfer between them.
The first half is Ubud, but not the Ubud of the monkey forest queue. You stay north of the centre where the rice terraces still work as farmland, and mornings are built around things that happen early because that is when they are worth doing — the market before the tour buses, the walk along the Campuhan ridge before the heat.
The second half moves south to the Bukit peninsula, where the cliffs drop into water that is a different colour entirely from the north coast. The pace drops with it. There is a plan for each day and permission to ignore it.
This suits couples, and it particularly suits people who have travelled enough to know that the best part of a holiday is usually the unscheduled afternoon. If you want to tick off every temple on the island, ask us for a different itinerary — we will happily build one, but it will not be this.
DAY BY DAY
The shape of
the journey.
Every day has intention, with enough breathing room to follow a recommendation or change your mind.
- 0101
Arrive, and do very little
Airport pickup and a slow drive north to Ubud, arriving in the late afternoon. Nothing is scheduled. Dinner is at the villa or a ten-minute walk away, depending on how the flight treated you.
- 0202
The market, then the ridge
Out early with a local guide to the produce market while it is still a market rather than a souvenir stall. Breakfast afterwards at a warung the guide actually eats at. The Campuhan ridge walk in the late afternoon, when the light is long and the crowds have gone.
- 0303
Water, in three forms
A day north: the Tegenungan waterfall early, then Tirta Empul for the purification springs, then hot springs near Batur to undo the driving. Long day, entirely optional — plenty of guests swap it for a second day doing nothing.
- 0404
Learn something
A cooking session in a family compound, starting with the spice paste rather than the finished dish. The afternoon is yours. Most people sleep.
- 0505
South to the cliffs
Transfer to the Bukit peninsula, around two hours. Check in, find the beach below the property, and stay there. Uluwatu at sunset if you have the energy, which you may not.
- 0606
Boat day, or not
A private boat to Nusa Penida's western coast, snorkelling in the channel on the way. Rough in some seasons, in which case we move it or drop it — this is one of the few days genuinely weather-dependent.
- 0707
The good, quiet day
Nothing planned at all. This day exists on purpose and guests consistently name it as the best one.
- 0808
Home
A late checkout where the property allows it, then the transfer south to the airport. Denpasar is close to the Bukit, which is part of why the second half of the trip is here.
